Oprah calls her a hero. At age 19, Amy Purdy was given a 2% chance to live after being diagnosed with meningitis. Due to a lack of circulation, she lost her legs below the knees. After this life-altering experience, Amy has gone on to become a Paralympian snowboard champion, ABC's Dancing With The Stars runner-up, author, speaker, and co-founder of non-profit Adaptive Action Sports. Amy knows all about adversity and she's an icon for resilience. In this episode from the Why Not Now? archives, we discuss tangible tips and tools Amy uses when faced with challenging times.

Elaine Wellness founder, Elaine Morrison joins Amy Jo on the show this week.

Elaine’s Why Not Now is engrained in her company. After facing health issues, Elaine took it upon herself to create a solution that would become Elaine Wellness. She shares her entrepreneurial journey, from building a product in a field she wasn’t familiar with, to what happened when a couple of much larger companies caught wind of what she was doing and almost pulled the rug out from under her. The key word being “almost”. What Elaine chose to do in that situation is a story of resilience, strength, and proof of what can happen when you look at potential failure as a stepping stone rather than a roadblock.

Elaine also talks about her experience in Amy Jo’s Renegade Brand Bootcamp & how it helped her reveal her brand essence as well as the answer to the question “what do you do?” She also discusses the importance of taking time to listen to your internal GPS as well as tapping into your resilience & the privilege of aging.

Dr. Gay Hendricks has been a leader in the fields of relationship transformation and body-mind transformation for more than 45 years. He earned his Ph.D. from Stanford and served as Professor of Counseling Psychology at the University of Colorado for 21 years.

Gay has written more than 40 books, two of my favorites include The Big Leap and Five Wishes. He has appeared on more than 500 radio and TV shows including Oprah, CNN, CNBC and others. I’ve been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with Gay and his wisdom is unmatched. Most voices of authority in this realm stick with the academic theory but Gay has a beautiful way of blending and weaving through his life experiences into his teachings as well.

In this episode from the Why Not Now? archives, Gay talks about how an argument with a partner led to his Why Not Now? moment which allowed him to identify a pattern and it changed his life. He shares the four steps that allow you to solve any problem, as well as the danger of unexpressed creative potential. You’ll also get to hear the 3 sacred things Gay decided he wanted in a relationship.

Your “Why Not Now?” moment may not always be about starting something new. What happens if that moment comes when it’s time to end something? Eran Zinman, Co-Founder & CTO of monday.com, and Amy Jo discuss that very thing in this episode.

Eran’s “Why Not Now?” came after he realized he hadn’t validated the idea for his first company properly and had built a product that nobody wanted. He then decided to close the business. Rather than jumping straight into starting something new, Eran knew he needed to take the time to learn the things he didn’t know, in order to be successful. That intentional path of learning led him to create monday.com.

Eran talks through how to tell the difference between a bump in the road, and when it’s time to re-evaluate your idea. He also shares what questions to ask when you’re at a point in your journey of not knowing when to let things happen or make them happen, and his thoughts on why being afraid to fail is a surefire way to actually fail.

One of Eran’s superpowers is his ability to curate a successful team, and in-turn be a successful leader. You’ll learn why it’s so important to get the right people on your team, his tips on self-optimization, his philosophy on transparency, and how that philosophy provides a sense of ownership and togetherness across the entire monday.com company.

Eran also shares the meaning behind a phrase that is a new favorite in our office; changing your playground.

Cindy Eckert has built and sold two pharmaceutical companies and she's the creator of the Little Pink Pill. Cindy exited that company for more than a billion dollars, and in total has $1.5bn worth of exits, but who's counting? Right? Cindy writes her own rules and defines what it means to be a renegade. The woman is unapologetically true to herself and it's serving her very, very well.

Cindy has created and runs The Pink Ceiling, which is the cross between a VC fund, an incubator, and a consulting firm with a focus on women and female entrepreneurs. Cindy was quoted in Entrepreneur magazine saying “The injustice I'm fighting with The Pink Ceiling is not only women's limited access to capital, but also their limited access to mentors.” She's also been quoted in Fortune Magazine saying that her investment strategy is to quote "Make other women really f'n rich" end quote. The renegade mentality that this woman has can help anyone, and the things that Cindy shares in this episode are specifically applicable to anyone who's looking to tackle their Why Not Now?

For the past 14 years, Jaime Casap has been the Chief Education Evangelist for Google. He recently left that position, and like many of us, Jaime is now on the path to figuring out what he’s going to do next.

Jaime and Amy Jo discuss the Why Not Now? moment that led him to Google; a moment that took him from New York to Arizona with only $40 in his pocket. Jaime’s main focus is on education, and he shares the question he believes we should be asking rather than “what do you want to be when you grow up?” He also discusses how changing your view of learning from a process to a mindset can greatly help you along the path of finding what you want to do in life.

You’ll also get to hear Jaime’s ingenious inbox trick he uses when going on vacation to keep from coming back to thousands of emails. He gives tips on how to design your own day and how to rethink the idea of “work/life balance” so you can just simply live life.

They discuss how they came to this decision by sharing the 5 Renegade Rules they following when making big life decisions. These tips are applicable to almost any decision you may have in front of you and if you’re ready to start a new project then make sure to take notes and ask yourself these questions first.

Amy Jo and Richard also share how they plan to safely travel the western half of the country while social distancing along the way. They talk about their worries and fears of adapting to living in an RV, especially with a 1-year-old.

Alicia Menendez is a Writer, MSNBC Anchor, and Advocate for Women in the Workplace. She is the author of "The Likeability Trap: How To Break Free and Succeed As You Are".

Alicia shares a Why Not Now? moment that effected every aspect of her life, career, and those she was working with. She explains the questions she asked herself, and the process she applied, to see if the “risk” was worth it to potentially put her career in jeopardy, which led her to drill down on what she actually wanted out of her next career move.

She discusses losing and gaining momentum and being open to putting a few opportunities, and side gigs, together to lay a foundation for your next move.

Alicia has been described as “unflusterable”. She talks through her methodology when she starts to feel flustered, and how you can use her tools in your own day.

Alicia gives an overview of her book "The Likeability Trap" and how we look at “likability” in today’s society, specifically when it comes to women in the workplace.

You’ll learn why there’s a call for authentic leadership in the workplace, and how we can do better as a culture to reckon with the idea of likability as a cover for bias.

You’ll learn how you can create meaningful feedback and evaluations that take a 360-degree approach to incorporate opinions of many, versus the opinion of one, and how you can ask better questions when receiving feedback.

Alicia also shares her thoughts on branding, and why you don’t have to be all things to all people to be a brand, as long as you are authentic to yourself and are known for what you want to be known for.
